Why designers also have to learn coding-part 1

Web Design Talk July 15th, 2009
In most of the cases, after web designers finish their job and hand over to developers to code, frustration will arise as a result of the impracticality of the design. The cruel fact is that the development of the website might be dragged because of the design. In order to achieve the best result, designers are not only able to draw, but also make it work. In this article, I am going to share with you the reasons why designers also need to learn coding.
Workable design
When you have the final image of the product in mind, some of the workable concepts have to follow. As an essential member of the whole development, designers have to ensure their design can be successfully implemented, and also take its usability, readability and workability into consideration. A user friendly website is not only logical but also easy to search. The only way to figure out the logic of a website is to build a website by yourself from scratch.
Better communication
In reality, designers and developers never fully meet each others’ expectation, especially for intangible goods, i.e. Website, game and software. It is because the expectation on product comprises its workability. Until now, it is still hard to reach perfection. One solution is: designers have to experiment the development themselves, in order to avoid confusion and miscommunication.
