CIO Insight- The well known IT magazine in US, Selected 10 best software companies of year 2008 according to its company value, product reliability and product loyalty.

In 2008, the rank of many traditional software companies dropped, from the recent statistics, Google is the number 1 software company in 2008 and its competitor, Microsoft, fall to Number 7.
Following are the list of these 10 companies from CIO Insight:

Number 1: Google- Overall Score: 81
Company value: 82
Product reliability: 79
Product loyalty: 83
Google continued innovation and strong moves in the mobility space succeeded in knocking Red Hat out of the top spot.

Number 2: Red Hat– Overall Score: 79
Company value: 75
Product reliability: 75
Product loyalty: 92
Last year overall winner remains strong, its ratings this year, with the responsiveness to needs of customers engendering high loyalty levels.

Number 3: Citrix– Overall Score: 73
Company value: 73
Product reliability: 73
Product loyalty: 89
Citrix held steady at No. 3 just edging out Adobe, but failed to rank in the top two, as it did in 2006 and 2005.

Number 4: Adobe- Overall Score: 72
Company value: 72

Adobe just missed moving into the top three, but took home the highest loyalty rankings of any software vendor (besides Google).

Number 5: Novell- Overall Score: 65

Novell raised four spots from last year but low customer loyalty scores bogged the firm down in this year rankings.

A new entry to the list, the Software-as-a-Service forerunner showed average performance in value and reliability but got a big boost from strong customer loyalty.

The same goes for the software behemoth- solid customer loyalty helped keep it hovering around the same spot as last year and fended off others.

The business intelligence vendor leapt four spots to regain its 2005 footing, but it still faces an uphill climb to reach the highest tier of software providers.

Business Objects has steadily slipped from its 2005 perch as No. 3 in the software market but just missed eclipsing rival Cognos this year.

Larry Ellison’s acquisition machine kept humming this year, but a poor showing in value just barely kept Oracle in the Top 10.

The cold wind of US financial winter has blown from the Wall Street in east coast to Silicon Valley, California. Even Google, the internet search engine giant has affect by it. In the past, every year Google gave 1000 cash bonus before Christmas, but this year, this annual bonus was replaced with Google new product, G1 phone.Google has launched G1 phone to compete with Apple iPhone. It runs on Android, Its own mobile operating system. The sale record of this new product was nothing to brag about after it was put into the market in this October, and the responses from the insiders is lukewarm as well. IT people called it “an unattractive and uninspiring piece of plastic”.

However, Google used the word “dream phone” to describe G1. In the Email which was send to Googlers, it said: “it’s a great way to thank everyone for their hard work. In the past, we’ve done this in cash. This year, we’ve decided to give Googlers a different kind of present – a Dream phone”.

Google has 20,123 employees all over the world, among them, 85%, includes the employees in US, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Canada, Singapore, Japan and Australia, will receive G1 phone. To the other areas where G1 can not enter because of legal issue, the employees will receive 400 US dollars cash per person.

Besides reducing the bonus, Google used to consider about reducing the staffs. Comparing with HP, Yahoo and other It companies which have started to cut staffs, Google still have rich strength, business income of the company has exceeded 21 billions dollars in the third Quarter of this year. However, the growth speed of this quarter was slowing, only 3%.

Google keeps adding the new functions recently, from Gtalk Video chatting, Google Friend Connect to Gmail Tasks. Almost every day we can find new function from Google. How many functions Google has? And What Google can do for our daily internet life with these functions?

Besides searching engine, we can use Google to do many others, from online chatting to booking a lunch appointment with friends and many more. And because internet plays important role in our daily life, we should find out Google’s functions and learn how to use them.

Use Gmail’s Tasks list function to organise your self

Recently a new function called Tasks added on the Gmail. With this function, you can add the email message which you need to follow up to your Tasks List, and hence you can organise your daily tasks and appointment schedule while checking the email. This function can save lots of time for us and is very convenient to use.

The well known USA online shopping website Amazon may stop its Alexa search engine on next year January. Beside, the service has stop to accept the new user application, but the current users can still use the service till 26-January next year.

Many people wonder about why Amazon has to stop its Alexa search engine? According to the Amazon official, it is because the use rate of search engine is too low, and most US internet users use Google, Yahoo and Live search from Microsoft as their primary search engine look for products and information.

Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google hit the campaign trail on the behavior of the Democratic president candidate Obama last week.

In the recent interview of Schmidt, he told Wall Street Journal this is my personal decision. He emphasized that Google, whose headquarter is located in Mountain View, California will be remain aloof in the election campaign.

Wall Street Journal reported that Schmidt planed to publicly support Obama with the other technology company administrators but this report didn’t mention the names of the other technology company administrators.

Schmidt is the one of the chief executives in Silicon Valley who used to be the technology advisors of Obama’s campaign. Newmark, the founder of online classified advertisement website, Craigslist is also one of Obama’s advisors.

Compared with the Republican president candidate, McCain, High-technology industry has show greater favorite on Obama. Up to the end of August, Google staffs have donated $487,355 Dollars to Obama’s campaign while there are only $20,600 Dollars for McCain’s campaign.

Although between Google, Parliament and Ministry of Justice, there are still many unsettle disputes, includes the advertisement cooperative agreement with Yahoo, Schmidt still keep his determination to support Obama.
