After ceased six services last week, Google announced that they will put more focus on their core products, therefore they will cease another service- Print Ads sales services.

Google has already stop or cut several services includes Google Notebooks, Google Catalogs, Dodge ball, Google Video, Google Mashup Editor and further development of Jaiku. Now it turns to Print Ads.

In the past, Google allowed advertisers purchase different kinds of media advertisement on Google Adwords platform, it included not only newspapers but TV and radio as well. This action used to be regarded as the milestone for Google to extend their territory from virtual world to the tangible world. Up to now, there are more than 800 newspapers joined the project, among them, there are quite a lot of famous newspapers such as < New York Times>, , and

At the beginning, Google expected that Print Ads can be a new sales channel for the journalism and also can provide customers more highly related advertisement, but the result didn’t reach their expectation. Therefore, they decided to ceased Print Ads Service in the end of this February while TV and radio advertising services are remained. However, Google didn’t mention that how is the performance of these two media advertising.

This change revealed that Google would pay more attention on the services which bring profit to the company. This also showed that publishing is more and more virtualized nowadays. This brings more difficulties for Google’s Print Ads service to extent to the tangible market. However, Spencer Spinell, director of Print Ads, said that in the future, they would still endeavor to cooperate withe the publishers to find another new method which can attract the readers as well as bring profit.
