Technique 1: Lighting effect
To use lighting effect, it is essential to know where the light comes from, since the source of light determines the position of the high light and the position of the shadow. (However you may break these rules in web design). In Photoshop, you may choose Global Illumination under the “Layer” tab, to ensure all the lighting effect comes from the same origin.
Well controlled lighting position can create special design atmosphere (it can be achieve even if only using one simple line or Radial Gradient). Lighting effect can also guide the visual focus.
Campaign Monitor: Use divergent light source, to create a sunrise effect
Icebrrg: Use lighting to create underwater effect
Mike Precious: Using multiple lighting sources, to create multiple lamp lighting effect on the top
