Design for Blog: WellMedicated

It is different when it comes to Blog design. You don’t need to be very persuasive to gain trust from your clients, because your “products” have already displayed in front of them — which is your Blog content. What you need to do is to ensure your users can read the content easily, search information, build up relationship between you and your Blog.

Content is one of the most essential element that your readers first encounter. In the following example, a thick pink title, was well used to attract your attention, which leads you to focus on the content of the article. On the left hand side, it is the thumbnail, and on the right hand side it is the summary with two to three paragraphs, and a link to “continue”. There also will be standard time and dates information and author information. This is my so call “perfect example of content design”. Because attentions are successfully drawn to the interesting content.

In this example, the beautiful “RSS” button becomes the spotlight. Besides the connection that drawn between read and content, it drives more subscriptions to your website. It encourages your reader to conduct simple search across the website with a list of latest news. Or you can even design a drop down menu, even organize a list for your hot products. It is easy to make and powerful enough to build up connections.

Tips for organizing content

It is inevitable for you to encounter situation where the norms are not applicable, and it then leads to a moment where you need to find extraordinary expression. However you can still apply the following simple tips.

  • What do you design for? As mentioned above, set your design goal.
  • Utilize grid: grid helps you to discover the greatest potentials.
  • Users testing: test the readability and accessibility of the website from users perspective.
  • Remove unnecessary element: remove all unnecessary stuff, or shift them to a low exposure spot.
  • Balance your attention: something needs to be simplified in order for the others to be splendid.
