Viget: line spacing and letter spacing
Viget is a perfect example to show the importance of font to a web page design. In figure 11, it shows their gallery page, again illustrates the power of large font to create open space. Even with narrow and thin font, the wide space is fully utilized. Another spotlight of this page is their choice of line height. Line spacing is set to be much larger than default value, which enhances the readability of the display text. Maybe you would like to try in your own design also.
Web Design Ledger: emotion matching fonts
The choice of perfect fonts isn’t without many trials and failure, you may also like a font to represent your “emotion”. In figure 12, Web Design Ledger, it not only gives a feeling of the old, but also flows with modern passion. The key for success is a selection of a matching font. Henry Jones, the designer of the Website chose a traditional serif font: Georgia, to enrich the old style. On the other hand, Henry chose Helvetica for text body, a modern san-serif font that is very different from title font.
Determination in font choosing
Now you should be able to be determined in font choosing. However, why the above Website can be so impressive? And how can you apply into your next design?
- readability? Don’t be afraid of using big and thick fonts
- line spacing? It greatly enhances the readability.
- emotion matching? Make sure the chosen fonts match to your design style
